I was fortunate to have run into Jonny
Moseley at the 1987 U.S. Nationals in freestyle which were being held on Squaw's
famously steep and bumpy North Bowl. Accessed by the Headwall chair. I saw a small kid with a toothy smile
ripping up the VW bug sized bumps better than most of the far older and
experienced skiers. Not only that, he was dressed smartly for my
Kodachrome film, with his yellow one piece suit, kneepads, and red headband. |
My only thought at the time, other than what
a great color combination he had for my photos, was that if this kid could
only make it to 18 years of age without blowing up his knees or succumbing
to the mental pressures of competition, he might just
make the U.S. Ski Team someday.
The rest is history.

At the Jonny Moseley Invitational held at
Squaw Valley, Jonny uncorks his new "hot buttered dinner roll".
This was prior to the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City where he did his
regular "dinner roll", but not with the "butter". |
